BLOG:

12th Night.

In short

We run an Engine Shed on Friday 8th January, led by Lee Hunter.

On Saturday 9th January, we will have an all-dayer at York University.

Explanation

Our last 12th Night was truly awesome. I don't think I've ever been to a better event, and I know that a lot of you felt same. Even with 550 on the Saturday night, you all deliver the same 'local club' atmosphere that only seems to exist in the Northeast.

The entertainment was also exceptional: teachers; performers; DJs; & band all excelled themselves. So I know that a lot of you are going to be both gutted and mystified.

Ladies & gentlemen, I'm gutted too.... but I need a break! This year was the 8th event & the almost-single-handed organisation chews-up nearly six months of my life. Every year we are at the edge of viability. In fact this year, we were a couple of thousand short of covering a 30K event! It was a big leap of faith moving to an expensive new venue; running for the whole weekend; & organising on-campus accommodation.

It was also a lot more work!

I do it because I'm passionate about Salsa so, to some extent, I'm not too worried about the cash. I also believe that it could be made to work if we just had a bit better take-up on the 'whole event' next time.

The problem is the time, or lack of it!

This year has been very stressful: 12th Night; owner of Engine Shed dying; trying to re-organise a programme at York University - not getting enough support & losing some more cash; Engine Shed re-opening - having to completely re-organise the year's programme. Finally, but by no means least, I've just blown away a set of website developers, for the 2nd time in two years, just at the point when I'm ready to unleash the 'Regional Directory' on you all... you'll be impressed... when you finally get to see it!

It's a long story! I would just say that I can offer a cautionary tale to any of you being offered CMS as the easy & inexpensive way of becoming independent of developers!

I badly needed a friend, to run things by, who also knew what he was talking about.

At 4am a few mornings ago, in desperation, I emailed the guy who built this site seven years ago - sadly for me, he was gobbled-up by the EU in Brussels before the project was finished, and I've been snookered ever since. I know that he's living somewhere in Northern Spain, with his Spanish wife & family, so I don't even know if his e-address still works. A few of hours later I get a return email. "You're in luck, Tony! I've got to have a hernia op & have to lay-up for four weeks. We'll soon get it sorted!"

Here's the bottom line. I need some time to concentrate on getting the Engine Shed back on track; getting the website project finished; and, hey, just getting around to the boxes full of CDs in cellophane wrappers so I can play you some fresh sets!

So many thanks to all of you who continue to support what we try to do. We're not going away, and hopefully the full 12th Night will return. See you at the Shed!

All the best, Tony

Thanks for your visit.......Make it a 'Refreshing' one

This site changes daily. Make sure you are looking at the most recent pages. Your computer stores web-pages, to make access faster if you re-visit them... but the pages stored may have changed, and need 'refreshing'!

You can 'set' your 'Explorer' to 'refresh' automatically.

automatic refreshing instructions

In your Explorer, above, you can click View and then Refresh, or simply click the icon, above, which looks like a page with two green arrows on it.

Better practice is to have Explorer do this for you automatically: Click Tools, above; click Internet Options at the bottom of the drop-down menu; make sure you are looking at the General tab; in the middle of the card, under 'Temporary Internet files', click Settings; under 'check for newer versions of stored pages', click the button in front of 'Every visit to the page'. Click 'OK'... Bingo!.....now you will always be 'Refreshed'!
